Want to try barefoot shoes but confused by the flood of information? Not sure where or how to start? Then you are at the right place.

My @bosenogice profile and Bose Nogice website is designed as a small guide to the world of barefoot shoes.

Here you can find guides to guide you through the appropriate purchase of barefoot footwear and teach you how to identify the right model for you, list of barefoot shoe brands, detailed lists of each shoe category and detailed reviews of the models I have tested.

I don’t sell shoes, but you can find links to all the barefoot shoe retailers and links to the official brand pages on my blog too.

Buying the first pair of barefoot shoes is usually the hardest. The most common mistakes are to choose a barefoot shoe that is too narrow or too short, also some people make the transition too quickly.

Posts to help you buy the first pair of barefoot shoes were my first blog posts. Now the posts have been replaced by a new post waiting for you at the top of the blog in the Get started menu.

I hope this step-by-step guide will make buying barefoot shoes even easier for you💜

Did you have any problems buying your first pair of barefoot shoes?
If you haven't tried them yet, what is the biggest obstacle?

Meet Kolda - vegan, sustainable, hemp barefoot sneakers from @bohempia_official.

I've introduced you to the Czech brand Bohempia in the past already. Kolda 2.0 is on of their best-selling models made from natural hemp as all their shoes. I chose Kolda in light grey for testing, but there are 5 other colours available.

The sole is made from natural rubber. The added insole adds some cushioning, so it is also suitable for those who prefer minimal padding.

The side edge is higher just for visual effect, the sole thickness itself is not that big, but the edge does not allow the sole to spread sideways (the width of the shoe is quite fixed because of this).

All Bohempia shoes are available in 2 widths. For me this is fantastic and all brands should have this option. I wear a size 42, normal width (foot length 26.3 cm, inner shoe length 27.5 cm). In the bigger sizes, the regular models are suitable for narrower feet than in the smaller ones. My regular width pair is suitable for maximum medium-wide feet.

Due to the way the laces are tied, the model will not be suitable for very low-volume, low instep feet, as the laces will not be able to be tightened well enough. For me the model is still suitable and it fits me well. I have some gaping around the ankles, but it doesn’t bother me or affect my gait. Take in mind that if you have a higher volume feet the eyelets will be further apart.

All Bohempia models can be bought with a 10% discount with code BOSENOGICE (code not an affiliate code, the post is not paid, but shoes are a gift for review).

Overall, Kolda 2.0 are very nice looking sneakers and definitely one of my favourite Bohempia styles.

@groundies_barefootwear has launched a number of barefoot sneakers this spring. I loved the look of several models and decided to buy and try the Nova model in beige/pink combination.

For those of you who don't know the @groundies_barefootwear brand in detail, one small note. Groundies has a variety of barefoot and non-barefoot models in its range. The barefoot models are labelled 'wide' or 'anatomical toe box' online and only those are the correct shape.

Among the barefoot models, the widths of the shoes vary depending on the type of sole used. The widest is the G01 sole, which is also used on my Orlando model, which is one of my favourite models.

The Nova has the GS1 sole type, which is among the narrowest and thickest. The Universe model, which I reviewed last year, also has this type of sole. I was expecting the width of the Nova to be the same as the Universe from last year, but there has been a change in the sole since my review.

The new GS1 sole is now approx. 3-4 mm narrower than the sole in my Universe model so the Nova model is suitable for narrow feet.

Compared to the available width, the shoe has a lot of room above the toes and despite the width being too small for me, my foot does not fill the volume of the shoe enough. The shoes are also wider around the ankles.

Overall, the Nova is a very nice sneaker design and for me the combination of smooth and suede leather in pink/beige would be a winner if the shoes were a little wider.

At the moment, they'll be best suited to a narrow foot, which also needs to have more volume, which means they'll cover a very narrow range of the population. For most people, they will be too narrow or with too much volume. A slightly altered width-to-volume ratio (more width, less volume) would certainly increase the range of people for whom the shoes would fit properly.

In case you have this type of foot, the Nova model will be perfect for you, but if you don't find yourself in the description, I recommend the @groundies_barefootwear models with the G01 sole.

@greciansandals have long been popular among the barefoot community too, mainly because of their beautiful design and affordable prices.

Until now, they have only been available with a thicker sole, making them suitable as a transitional sandal, but this year they are finally available in a fully barefoot version with a Vibram sole.

The Grecian Sandals can be purchased on Etsy, and I received the model pictured as a review gift. In addition to the barefoot models, they also have a number of non-barefoot models available, so be careful which model you choose when ordering.

The sandals are made from thicker leather and are available in a lot of colours. You can also choose the colour of your choice.

The total thickness of the sole is approx. 9 mm. A thicker leather footbed adds a little more thickness and firmness, but the material softens with use.

In the Grecian Sandals I wear a size 42 with a sole length of 27,5 cm (foot length 26,3 cm).
You cannot change the shape and width of the sole, but they can adjust the length of the strap across the ball of the foot. In my case, the length of the strap has been modified, so the strap does not restrict my toes and their movement.

Sandals are best suited for medium wide feet that do not have a pronounced bean shape. The width across the ball of the foot is adequate for my foot, but I would need a slightly more width for my big toe.

The sandals fit well to different ankle widths and instep heights. In case you have narrow ankles, you will need to shorten the strap and make extra holes, but this can be arranged at home without a problem. In my case I shortened it by about 3 cm.

The sandals are made by Natasa, with whom you can also arrange any adjustments without any problem. She is extremely friendly and responds to your questions fast💜

Recently, I posted a guide for buying barefoot sandals where I talked about how important it is to have sandals that fix your foot well while walking, but do not restrict the movement of your toes.

@lonnie_sandals are definitely one of my favourites in terms of design, as they perfectly combine a simple and elegant look with extremely good fixation and comfort. The toes are completely free and the adjustable strap across the instep and heel allows for optimal adjustment.

The sandals are made of microfibre and have a rubber sole. The strap between the toes can be wider (as in the photo) or narrower. From last week they are available in two new colours - black and purple (blue and gold are still available).

They are best suited for medium wide feet, but I definitely recommend using the printable templates when choosing your size.

Until the end of this week only, you can buy all Lonnie models with 10% off with code KATJA10 (code is not affiliate and the post is not paid, but the sandals are a gift for review).

You can also read a detailed review of the Lonnie sandals on my blog now.

Do your Teva sandals need replacing?

For a long time, these Teva sandals in the photo were my favourite sandals. They had a cushioned sole, they could get wet, they were easy to put on and I didn't feel like my toes were squished in them. Generally, they felt very comfortable and I didn’t see anything wrong with them.

But this was 7 years ago...

Although the length of the strap over the ball of the foot didn't feel super tight, the width and toebox shape of the sandals didn’t allow my toes to spread while walking. The non-functionality of my foot only increased.

The thick, cushioned sole, which for many is synonymous for comfort, made it impossible for my body to feel the ground and react to it properly. The elevated heel forced my body to maintain an upright position by compensating in my pelvis and back. My Achilles tendon was becoming short and contracted at the expense of the elevated heel.

The positioning of the straps not only further restricted the movement of my toes, but also did not provide me with sufficient lateral stability on uneven surfaces. The foot was sliding sideways and thus losing its stability.

But fortunately I found an excellent replacement. @earthrunners offer me exactly what Teva didn't. With a thin, flexible sole, they provide adequate protection from the ground with still feeling connected to it. The proper toebox shape and lacing method allows the foot to do its job.

My favourite model of @earthrunners is the Elemental model, which has the thinnest sole and this is the model you can see on the photo. The Tribal strap colour is not currently available, but @earthrunners have just added new monochrome straps, such as white and burgundy red.

You can also find my review of @earthrunners on my blog and with my affiliate code 10offBOSENOGICE you can get a 10% discount on all their products.

Don’t forget to check my Beginner Guide for Buying Barefoot Sandals on my blog too. It is important to be able to identify the right sandal for your foot shape and width too.
