Peerko Regina – Review

Peerko – masters of riding boots. After last year’s sucessful release of Empire boots, this year they surprised us again with the Regina model in suede, where they have perfectly adapted to the different calf widths by offering different shaft circumferences.

With the Peerko Regina, I conclude my winter shoe reviews. These are boots that perfectly suit my style and it has been a pleasure to test them. The pictures were taken at the beginning of autumn, when nature created this beautiful natural colour scenery for us, so it was pure pleasure to write this review.

2. Material characteristics

2.1 Upper

Available in brown and black, the Regina is made of soft suede leather combined with smooth leather and elastic material in the same colour in the back of the boot.

Smooth leather is used on the heel and as a decoration in the form of a strap that runs all the way to the top of the boot. Elastic material is added on both sides of the shaft, making them easier to adjust to different calf widths.

A zipper in matching brown is added on the inside of the boot, making them quick and easy to put on. The sole is glued and additionally stitched to increase the durability of the boot.

2.2 Lining

The Regina boots are lined with a thinner fleece lining, which is not added to the elasticated part, so the Regina is slightly less warm than their Empire model I reviewed here.

2.3 Sole

The sole is made of recycled thermoplastic rubber and is the same as the sole in other Peerko models. It is 3.5 mm thick with an added 1.5 mm profile. The total thickness of the sole is approx. 6 mm, which gives you a good ground feeling, but with a little bit of cushioning.

The boots have very good flexibility in all directions and, despite their height, I can easily roll them in all directions.

3. Sizing information

3.1 Length

The boots are available in sizes 37 to 45 and in two different shaft circumferences. In all Peerko boots, I usually wear a size 42 (foot length 26,3 cm) and the internal length of the boots corresponds to the value in the table.

However, despite the realistic internal length, the boots may appear slightly shorter. The reason for this is the heel that is shaped in such a way that the foot does not sit completely on the end of the boot. With longer wear, this area has softened for me a lot and I no longer have the feeling that my foot is pushed forward as much as it was when I first tried them on.

I have enough space in the length if I wear them with plain cotton socks, but if you plan to wear them with thick wool socks, make sure you choose enough space in front of the toes.

See post How much space do we need in shoes if you want to know more about that.

3.2. Toebox shape & width

The toebox shape of the Peerko boots is best suited for foot types 2, 4 and 5. Type 1 may leave a little more space in front of the smaller toes, but it also depends on the width of your foot how much this bothers you when walking.

With squarer foot shapes (3,6), you may run out of space in front of smaller toes. In this case, you can try to compensate by choosing an even more space in front of the toes than recommended.

More about different foot types you can read in my post What is my Foot Type?

The boots are best suited for medium and medium to wide feet, but in general they feel a little narrower than other Peerko models, even though the width of the sole is the same.

3.3. Fit around the instep, heel and ankle

The boots will be best suited for narrow to medium wide ankles and a lower to medium high instep. They fit low volume foot very well. In case your feet have even less volume than mine you can use leg warmers to add some volume. However, they are not suitable for a high instep and a very full foot.

They are available in two different shaft circumference (‘narrow’ and ‘regular’), and the elastic material also allows some adjustment, making it even easier to adapt to different calf widths. I wear the narrower version in size 42 (boot circumference 37 cm, calf circumference 34 cm). You can check the circumferences for each size in their size chart.

4. Comfort

The first time I tried the boots on, the heel felt firmer and more compact, but after the first wearing it softened up completely and didn’t cause me any problems. Boots are very comfortable to wear now.

Another big plus is the ease of putting on the boots. The thinner fleece lining ensures you enough warmth for winter conditions when temperatures are around 0°C.

5. How and when to wear them?

If you don’t want to wrap yourself in all black in the cooler part of the year, brown boots can be the perfect choice to add some colour. Regina boots are the perfect match with skinny jeans paired with an oversized sweater or tunic. They also go well with a dress and tights.

I’m wearing them with the Mila Vert pullover in the photo.

7. Shipping info

Shipping costs depend on the shipping country and where you are ordering from, so I recommend you to check their websites for that info.

8. To sum up

I am extremely grateful to Peerko for the opportunity to test these excellent Regina boots. With my challenging combination of narrow calves and long feet, I never dared to dream that tall boots would ever fit me so perfectly. But Peerko found a solution and offered us different circumferences.

Thank you, Peerko. Regina are a real pleasure to wear.
