Softstar Shoes Fireside – Review

Softstar Shoes Fireside slippers could officially earn the title of the softest and warmest house slippers in the world. Yes, they are so snuggly and cozy.

Softstar Shoes are known for their handmade shoes, which are made using ancient shoemaking techniques without using lasts. All their materials are sustainably sourced, environmentally friendly and their leather is of excellent quality.

Fireside slippers are their warmest model of slippers lined with genuine sheepskin of very good quality. They are available in one color, but Softstar Shoes can occasionally surprise us with a ‘limited edition’ color.

Slippers are suitable for wearing indoors, but the photos were taken outside for better light.

Disclaimer: I was sent these slippers as a gift to review, but as always, all opinions expressed here are my own. I’m also proud to be a Softstar Shoes affiliate and I may receive a small commission if you make a purchase through the links on my website at no additional cost to you. Thank you for all your support ♥

2. Material characteristics

2.1 Upper

Fireside slippers are made of very high quality genuine sheepskin in light brown color. Along the bottom edge they have an added detail from smooth leather.

The Firesides are symmetrical, which means that the left and right slipper is the same. The only difference between them is in the placement of the stars tags on the heels, which you can use to help distinguish the left and right pair. I recommend that you always wear the same slipper on the same foot because slippers will mould to your feet and stretch over time.

2.2 Lining

The inside of the slippers is completely lined with very soft sheepskin. The sheepskin insoles are removable and can be replaced with a new one if they wear out. New insoles can be purchased separately.

2.3 Sole

The sole is made of suede leather, so the ground feel in them is very good. Some softness and cushion when walking is provided with soft sheepskin insoles.

Of course, you can easily roll such soft slippers into a ball.

Also check my video for the close-up and to see how they look on my feet.

3. Sizing information

3.1 Length

In Fireside slippers I wear size 9U, ‘regular’ width. This is also the size that Softstar Shoes recommends for my foot length (26.3/10cm) in their size chart.

This size fits me perfectly and I wouldn’t want them to be any bigger because they stretch when worn.

For comparison, in the Switchback model I wear size 10U. I wear a size 9U in the Primal Merry Jane model, but I would need a little more space in it.

3.2. Toebox shape & width

At first glance, slippers do not have the most appropriate toebox shape because the line at the big toe is not straight. In fact, the slippers are symmetrical and there is no difference between the left and right pair. But the slippers still suit me. Why?

The rounding isn’t bothersome because the slippers are wide enough for me, and at the same time, the slipper acts more like a leather sock than a shoe, so there’s not some clear boundary between the sole and the upper. At the same time, the material eventually stretches with wear.

With the brand new pair, I felt a slight pressure on the side of my the big toe, but the leather has stretched and moulded to my feet now and they don’t feel snug anymore. Due to the shape and material, Fireside slippers will suit different foot shapes well.

More about different foot types you can read in my post What is my Foot Type?

I recommend that you always wear the same slipper on the same foot (check stars tags on the heel). Over time, you will notice the difference between the left and right slipper without looking at the tags on the heel.

Fireside is available in two widths – ‘regular’ and ‘wide’. I wear a regular width that is great for medium-wide feet. If your feet are wide, choose their wide model.

3.3. Fit around the instep, heel and ankle

Brand new slippers fit around my ankles and heels very nicely and didn’t slide off my foot. Eventually the leather stretched and now they have become looser and less fixed.

Slippers still hold my foot well if I wear them with socks, but they are less fixed on my bare feet. It doesn’t even bother me that much because I like to use them in the evenings and during the day when I work at the computer, where I mostly rest and sit.

4. Comfort

I have absolutely no complains about comfort. I don’t know if I could have anything softer on my feet than these slippers. The sheepskin in them is of exceptional quality and the feeling on bare feet is divine.

5. How and when to wear them?

Fireside slippers are on my feet daily in the colder part of the year. I prefer to wear them in the evening when I’m in my pajamas or during the day when I spend more time in a sitting position. They also work great if you have a job where you sit most of the time at the computer and your feet aren’t moving much.

I only don’t wear them in the summer because they are too hot for me during this time.

Their design allows you to wear them folded up or down. I usually wear them cuff-up to keep my ankles warm.

6. Price & where to buy

Softstar Shoes Fireside can be bought at the official Softstar Shoes website. The price is 155 €.

For the EU, tax, customs and the costs of the customs procedure need to be added to this price (this is usually cca. 35% – 40% to the price of the shoes).

7. Shipping info

Softstar Shoes ship worldwide. Free shipping is for the US, for Canada is free on orders above $100 and for the EU free for orders above $150 (125€) and $12 for anything less than this.

8. To sum up

Fireside slippers are not the cheapest investment, especially if you order them from Europe, but they are one of the softest and highest quality slippers I have ever worn. They are extremely warm and soft, so they are also suitable for anyone who gets cold feet easily. Due to the symmetrical shape, it is initially necessary to choose your left and right pair, but when worn, they stretch and mould to your foot shape, which must also be taken into account when choosing the right size.
