ZEAZOOkids Freya are pretty enought to be worn to a wedding and at the same time casual enough to be worn with your everyday clothes. Due to their design with a strap over the toes, they will also suit those who do not like anything between the toes.
ZEAZOOkids have been impressing us for years with their very popular barefoot sandals such as e.g. Siren, Coral and Anemone. This spring, these timeless models were joined by three completely new models of women’s sandals – Freya, Sahara and Symphony, as well as new models of men’s sandals.
Freya is the model I’m reviewing here.

2. Material characteristics
2.1 Upper
Freya sandals are made of leather and are available in a variety of colors. My sandals are Vanilla color and the name vanilla is just the perfect name for this gentle and very neutral beige leather color.
For an additional fee, you can also choose any other leather color from their offer.
The sandals have a special T-design, where the front strap is connected via a longitudinal strap to a strap that runs around the ankle. You also have a possibility to adjust the length of the straps across the toes and around the ankle with ordering a custom pair.
Freya is a type of sandal with an open heel. The strap runs around the ankles and is connected to the sole via side straps. In this way, a similar fixation is achieved as if using a strap running directly over the instep.
A metal buckle without added nickel is used for fastening.
2.2 Sole
For the sole is used 6 mm thick Vibram superflex rubber. This sole is one of my personal favorites for sandals because it is very soft and flexible, the ground feeling is good in it, and at the same time it offers a sufficient amount of protection.
Sandals can be effortlessly rolled in both directions.

3. Sizing information
3.1 Length
The Freya model is a brand new model in 2021 and is currently available in sizes 35 to 42 in regular width. After the experience with the Siren model, I chose size 41 here for my foot length of 26.3 cm here too. The same size is also recommended in their size chart for my foot length.
In open sandals, the 12 mm rule does not apply. Choose so much extra space that all the toes remain on the sole while walking (approx. 7-10mm). Too much extra space is not desirable because you may trip.

With this model, I have a little more space in front of my toes, but due to the toebox shape (which does not ideally match my foot shape) and the fact that the foot moves a little forward while walking, a smaller size would not suit me.
3.2. Toebox shape & width
The toebox shape of Freya sandals in regular width is best suited for foot type 1 and 2 – the longest big toe. The shape is the same as with the Siren regular width model I reviewed here.

My foot has the longest second toe and a relatively long third toe, so with this foot shape, I have to consider a little more space in front of the toes so that my third toe doesn’t hang over the sole while walking.
In case my longest toe was my big toe, I could also wear sandals in size 40.
Regular width is best suited for medium wide and medium-wide feet. For my foot width of 10 cm, the sandals are still wide enough, but I don’t have any “spare” width for an even wider foot.
ZEAZOOkids also allows partial adjustments of sandals. For now, with this model, you can only adjust the circumference of the strap over the toes, but not the width of the sole (but this might be possible in the future too).
In size 41, the standard circumference is 25 cm. My foot circumference is 24 cm, so the length of the strap across the toes is shortened (the length of the strap is taken from size 39).
In the Freya model, the strap across the toes is placed a little higher over the big toe, so the proper length of the strap is important. Too tight strap will press your toes together, and with too loose you will find it difficult to walk.
3.3. Fit around the instep, heel and ankle
The sandals fit me very well around the ankles, but the length of the strap is adjusted due to my narrow ankles. In case you have very narrow or wide ankles, I recommend that you also choose this custom option too.
The strap around the ankles ensures that the sandals are nicely fixed on the foot and that the foot does not move significantly during walking.
Compared to the Siren model in golden-beige color, the vanilla leather in the Freya model is a little more compact, but still soft.
I wear the same size in both models, but the sole of the Siren is longer because the heel is closed. The final position of the foot in the sandal is very similar in both. For both models, I also have an adjusted strap length across my toes. In the Siren model, the strap is placed a little further back.
4. Comfort
The sandals are very comfortable. They don’t rub me anywhere, I’ve never tripped in them and the sole is also very comfortable to walk on.
5. How and when to wear them?
Freya is a model that you can easily pair with more “casual” clothes, as well as with a more elegant blouse or even a summer dress. A diverse range of colors will satisfy all tastes, but the vanilla color in the photo is quite neutral and very easy to wear.

7. Shipping info
