Peerko Frost – Review

Feel royal in Peerko Frost Royal. The warmest winter boot from Peerko, lined with warm and soft wool, is here in three stunning colours and with an outstanding design. Such a versatile shoe that you will hardly miss anything else to wear for the job.

If you already liked Peerko Go model and you wished for something even warmer for winter, here is Frost. This Peerko model is very similar to Go model, which I already reviewed here, but it is lined with wool, which makes them even warmer and cosier.

Frost Royal was a pleasant surprise from Peerko as I didn’t expect them at all. But they know me so well. I love shoes in blue colour and this is the colour I would definitely pick too. Blue colour + amazing flower design…perfect combination for me.

2. Material characteristics

2.1 Upper

Peerko Frost is made from smooth or nubuck leather (depending on colour) and is available in 3 different colours; Chestnut (the same colour as my Empire boots are), Black (the same colour as my Go boots) and Royal, which is the colour that i’m reviewing here and is the only colour made from Nubuck leather.

You will be able to see from my photos that the colour looks slightly different on each of them. It is difficult to capture the right color in a picture because it looks different in the sun and in the shade.

There is something special about the Royal color. Not only that the color itself is gorgeous, the shoes have an added floral pattern that makes the shoes very special and unique.

I like that the pattern doesn’t stand out too much, but at the same time enough to impress.

Three speed hooks are added to the top of the boot to make it easier to put on the shoe. The flat laces are black.

The sole is stitched and glued to the upper for added durability.

2.2 Lining

Boots are lined with soft and cosy wool inside the whole boots which makes them suitable to wear for temperatures around zero degrees Celsius and even lower (read more about that in my warmth section).

2.3 Sole

As in all Peerko shoes, a 3.5 mm thick thermoplastic rubber sole with added 1,5 mm tread is used here.

With added wool insoles, their stack height is around 7 mm.

The sole is thin and it has good flexibility in both directions.

With Peerko shoes, people are often skeptical if the sole is really as thin as it says. But I assure you it is.

The sole only looks thicker due to the “wall” design of the sole, but over the sole is flexible and the ground feeling is still good for winter shoes. But you feel a little cushion, as is usual in all winter boots.

Also check my video for the close-up and to see how they look on my feet.

3. Sizing information

3.1 Length

Peerko Frost boots are available in size 37-45 and they are true to size. You can find the internal width and the length of the shoe in their size chart.

©Peerko

The same size 42 as I wear in my Go and Empire model, I also wear in the Frost. For my foot length 26.3 cm this means 12 mm of space inside the shoe.

12 mm space is also recommended by different studies and I prefer to stick to this wiggle room. 12 mm is the perfect space if I wear shoes with regular socks, but if you plan to wear Frost with thicker socks, you can add extra 2-3 mm to that length.

See my post How much space do we need in shoes if you want to know more about that.

3.2. Toebox shape & width

The toebox shape from Peerko has a gentle slope towards the little toe which makes them suitable for a lot of different foot shapes. They fit the best to feet with the longest first toe with a gentle slope towards the little and they work well for feet with the longest second toe too.

For people with all their toes about the same length, the shape is not the most optimal as they can run out of space for little toes.

More about different foot types you can read in my post What is my Foot Type?

Peerko shoes are best suited for people with medium and medium-wide feet. My feet are 10 cm wide and the internal width of size 42 is 10.3 cm. My toes have plenty of space to move.

They can accommodate even wider feet than mine are, but it really depends on the circumference around your toes too (high volume, wide feet can have less available width than low volume, wide feet). With the fact that Peerko shoes do not allow much spread to the side due to the design of the sole.

Take in mind that you will have slightly less space in the Frost model around your toes than in Go or Empire model, because of the wool lining. I don’t find it as a huge difference, but I can slightly feel it.

3.3. Fit around the instep, heel and ankle

Similar as the Go and Empire model, Frost fits the best to low and medium high instep in the midfoot just before laces start. People with higher instep can find them a little bit tight there.

Around my heel and ankles they fit better to my skinny ankles than my Go model for example. I had to tighten the laces in my Go model completely, but in Frost I don’t have to.

4. Comfort

As all Peerko shoes, Frost is a pleasure to wear. Soft leather, cozy lining. What else can you wish for?

5. Water-resistance and warmth

Frost boots are not stated as waterproof, but if you don’t plan to jump in the puddles with them they will be perfectly fine for every normal walk outside. You can use an impregnation spray suitable for nubuck to make them more waterproof, but I haven’t done that yet.

I find Frost the most comfortable to wear in temperatures around zero. I wore them at maximum -9 degrees Celsius and I was comfortable in them for an hour and after that time I started to get cold.

In terms of warmth I find them the same as most of the winter barefoot shoes I have. This is usually enough for me on most winter days in our climate and for wearing them to work.

6. Comparison to Go model

Frost looks very similar to the Go model, but there are some differences between those models which I want to show you.

  • The main difference is definitely the lining. While the Go model is lined with synthetics fleece with added 10% of wool, Frost is completely lined with wool and is therefore warmer than Go.
  • The side zipper is added only in the Go model. Frost has no zipper, but the top 3 eyelets are changed with speed hooks.
  • Width: while the sole and the toebox shape are completely the same in both models, you can lose some width because of the lining in the Frost model. For me there is still plenty of space, but those with wider feet can feel a bigger difference.
  • Fit around ankles: Frost fits better to skinny ankles, while in the Go model, I need to tie the laces as far as they go to prevent heel slipping. The situation in Frost is better and you can see on the photo that there is still space between speed hooks at the top. So, Frost is easier to adjust on skinny ankles and heels, but in Go you can struggle with that.

If you fancy black colour, you can get it in both models.

7. How and when to wear them?

My favourite combination for wearing my Frost Royal is pairing them with jeans cuffed just above the top of my boots. But if I wear skinny jeans or leggings, I just tuck the jeans inside the shoe.

If you are looking for a more classic Dr. Martens look, you can try Frost in Black colour, but Royal colour is definitely amazing too.

8. Price & where to buy

You can buy Peerko shoes on the official website, but you can also find them at various sellers. The full price for the Peerko Frost model is from 147,60€ to 151,60€ (price varies depending on the size).

US customers can buy them at PedTerra (affiliated shop) with 10% discount with my affiliate code BOSENOGICE.

9. Shipping info

Shipping costs depend on the shipping country and where you are ordering from, so I recommend you to check their websites for that info.

10. To sum up

Even though I own several pairs of Peerko boots already, each of them have a special place in my heart. I love all of them. They are so versatile and easy to style.

Frost Royal is definitely something special with this beautiful flower design. So unique and a pleasure to wear. Thank you Peerko
