Unshoes sport sandals were my last year’s purchase and they got plenty of wear during summer. They showed an excellent grip in wet conditions and good durability. They can also be customized which make them work for a wide variety of people.

Unshoes is a US based company and this means it can feel like a gamble for EU residents to order from them. Unshoes sandals were my first time ever order from the US and I was quite anxious how will they fit me. But as they have all the templates available on their website, it was not hard to choose the right size and shape for me.

Since then, this was not my only order from this company. I also ordered their Keota sandals for my kids and Saffron sandals for me from their Wildflower collections.

In this review I’m presenting you two styles of Unshoes sandals from their sport range – Pah Tempe 2.0 and Wokova Feather.

Disclaimer: I bought sandals myself. All opinions expressed here are my own and I don’t receive any compensation if you choose to buy some for yourself.

2. Material characteristics

2.1 Upper

All Unshoes sport sandals are made from vegan materials and are cruelty-free. Their Pah Tempe 2.0 and Wokova Feather models presented in this review are two very different styles of sandals.

Wokova Feather is their really minimal sport sandal with thin webbing with a thong strap and elasticated part over the instep. The straps are available in 3 colours (Black, Olive Green and Pink).

Pah Tempe 2.0 is the total opposite from Wokova Feather. It is one of their most robust and thickest sandals with the strap across the toes which is more appropriate for those who find the strap between the toes too disturbing.

It has a big buckle for closing and is available in 4 colours (Black, Navy, Rust and Olive Green).

Pah Tempe 2.0 is also available in Sleek options (PT Sleek) with thinner and sleeker straps and with a smaller buckle. But Unshoes don’t recommend this option for bigger sizes as it ‘can also increase toe flop’, this is why I didn’t decide for this option.

2.2 Sole

Unshoes offers two different outsole options in their sport sandals. In my Pah Tempe 2.0 sandals their 6mm suction cup outsole is used and in Wokova Feather 4mm star outsole.

According to Unshoes ‘the 6mm sole has a more aggressive tread with more grip than the 4mm sole’ and ‘the 4mm sole still offers good traction, but creates less friction with smooth surfaces, making it great for road running or just everyday use’.

Sandals also have different footbed thickness. In Wokova Feather their 1 mm Standard footbed is used and in Pah Tempe 2.0 Ultra footbed with 4 mm thickness.

The total stack height of Pah Tempe 2.0 is 10 mm and Wokova Feather 5 mm.

Wokova Feather sole is their thinnest option and the most minimal sole you can get.

The sole has great flexibility in both directions and great ground feeling. But it can also feel more floppy than thicker soles, especially in bigger sizes.

Thicker sole in Pah Tempe 2.0 sandals will give you more cushioning with not losing a lot of flexibility.

You can’t roll them as easily as 5 mm sole, but I still don’t find it too hard. For me the sole has very good flexibility for a sandal with 10 mm thick sole. Also, you will still get a decent ground feeling for 10 mm thickness. For me this is a great sole if you need more protection. It really moves well with your feet.

If none of their standard sole options suit you, you can choose their custom sandals with your own combination of outsole and footbed.

I find Unshoes sandals great for water activities. They have a wonderful grip when they are wet.

Also check my video for the close-up and to see how they look on my foot.

3. Sizing information

3.1 Length

Unshoes sandals are available in sizes Women’s 5 – Men’s 13 (foot length 21.6 cm- 29.4 cm). You can choose between their standard and custom sandals. For custom sandals you can choose between 6 different sole shapes and 9 different hole positions (for sandals with thong strap). You can also customize your sole type.

Both my sandals are their standard option as this sole shape fit my foot really well. Like they were made for my feet 🙂 Standard option is their Template 1 and hole position number 4.

If the standard sole shape doesn’t fit you, I definitely recommend you to check their custom templates too.

3.2. Toebox shape & width

Unshoes allow you to choose between 6 different templates. Their standard Template 1 which I have, works great for my foot type (medium and medium-wide bean-shaped feet, with the longest 2nd toe). But they also have narrower and wider soles and different toebox shapes available.

All the templates are available in their Custom Sandals section under each sandal model.

3.3. Fit around the instep, heel and ankle

Both sandals can be adjusted really well to different foot volumes. Pah Tempe 2.0 has a continuous strap and you can tighten them where necessary.

I find that the part where the buckle is positioned can get loose over some time of wearing them and I need to tighten that part again from time to time.

Wokova feather straps can be tightened almost infinitely and you need to tighten them only once. The strap stays really well on the position you put them and they don’t loosen with wear so easily as Pah Tempe 2.0.

There is no need to adjust the buckle each time you are planning to wear them. You do it once and you are over with it. Now you just slip them on.

4. Comfort

I find both sandals very comfortable to wear. The buckle in Pah Tempe 2.0 can look a little bit bulky, but you don’t feel it at all then you wear them. Also I didn’t experience any rubbing at all.

Also Wokova Feather didn’t cause me any issues with a thong strap. The strap was comfortable for me to wear from the minute I put them on.

5. How and when to wear them?

Both sandals are sport sandals, so you can wear it with your sport clothes or casual clothes. They also provide a good grip in water.

Pah Tempe 2.0 is designed for rugged terrain, for those who don’t like anything between the toes or for those who want to wear sandals with regular socks. The front strap is positioned in the way that all your toes are completely free.

But if you plan to make more intense sport activities in them with a lot of lateral movement or to provide good stability for downhill hiking, I would recommend you to choose models with a toe loop or thong strap. Their Uinta model looks really promising for that as the strap position looks really great to allow proper big toe movement on uneven surfaces.

Wokova Feather are one of the most fashionable looking sport sandals on the market. But because of the thin sole, thin strap and elasticated part they can feel a little less secure on foot than other sandals. I would recommend them for not so intense activities and for casual walks.

But the strap position is great for a proper big toe movement and if you need even more secure fit, their Wokova Sandals look more appropriate for that.

6. Price & where to buy

Sandals can be bought directly from Unshoes website. The price for the Wokova Feather sandals is $50 (42.20€) and Pah Tempe 2.0 is $72 (60.77€).

If you decide for a custom option the price for custom Wokova Feather sandals is $70 (59.09€) and Pah Tempe 2.0 is $85 (71.75€).

If you live in the EU you need to add taxes and customs to that price too.

7. Shipping info

Unshoes are located in the USA, but they ship worldwide. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout and are based upon the weight of your order and the shipping country (around $36 for a pair of sandals shipping to EU).

8. Where are they made?

Unshoes is a small company of minimalist shoes and sandals made in the USA. The birth of their brand is quite unique and interesting. They never intended to sell sandals, but they were just looking for their own perfect pair. But obviously they must be doing something right, as this developed in such a great business.

I love their mission ‘to empower people by creating products that enable them to move naturally’ and their message ‘that we as humans are functional, from the ground, up.’ We need this in our lives.

9. To sum up

If you are looking for durable sandals which you can wear everyday and which will provide you a good grip even in the water, Unshoes are a great option for that.

Pah Tempe 2.0 are great for those who need more protection from the ground and for those who don’t like anything between their toes. Wokova Feather is more fashionable sport sandals which will be appealing for women. I would recommend them if you don’t plan to use sandals for a lot of hiking and intense sport activities.

Unshoes have so many different options of sandals (and they are also customizable) that I’m sure there is something to find for anyone.
