Peerko Classic – Review

Peerko Classic – a new leather addition to Peerko brand. A great shoe for all those who look for one shoe to suit it all, as they can be worn with more formal clothes and even with casual. And as they are completely made from leather, they won’t immediately let you down even in the rain.

Barefoot shoes should be light as a feather. And Peerko had this in mind when choosing a name for its brand. Namely, Pírko in Czech means feather. And a feather become Peerko’s brand logo.

Peerko started their barefoot journey with a help of a crowdfunding campaign. Their first Peerko 1.0 model, was a huge success. So big, that they couldn’t even fulfil local demand.

I already had their 1.0 model before and I knew I would like to try out their Classic model as well, so I was happy to support them with the purchase in their new campaign as well. Peerko kindly sent me another pair as a gift in exchange for a review.

Disclaimer: I bought one pair of Peerko shoes myself and I got another pair as a gift for review. All opinions expressed here are mine and I do not receive any compensation if you choose to purchase. 2. Material characteristics

2.1 Upper

Peerko Classic is a new leather collection of Peerko shoes. The shoes are available in many different colors and are made of smooth or suede leather.

My steel colour is made from smooth and blue colour from nubuck leather.

The upper is not treated for water-repellence, but I find that the leather holds really well in a rain without any impregnation used. The leather has a quality look and it doesn’t crease immediately as some other leather shoes I have.

Shoes have a padded collar, which makes them really comfortable to wear even completely without the socks.

In some colours thin round laces are used which gives the shoe more formal look, but some have flat laces which gives them a look of a casual sneaker. But my both pairs have thin round laces.

Heel hold its shape well, but it’s still soft and it can be easily bend with a finger.

2.2 Lining

Shoes are completely lined with leather. The insole has a Peerko feather brand logo imprinted on the heel part and it is not removable. As the shoes are made from natural materials, I find that the shoe has a good breathability too.

2.3 Sole

Outsole is made from thermoplastic rubber. The thickness of the sole is 3,5 mm with additional 1,5 mm of the profile. Total stack height of the outsole is 5 mm.

You can find a feather logo on their outsole too.

The sole is glued and sewn to the upper for better durability. Because the shoes have emphasised sole edge, the sole look thicker than it’s actually is. They still have a good flexibility and a decent ground feeling.

I can roll them in both directions with no problem. With use they become even softer.

Also check the video for the close-up.

3. Sizing information

3.1 Length

Peerko Classic shoes are available in sizes 37-45 and the internal shoe lengths listed in the table correspond to the actual inner lengths.

My feet are 26,3 cm long and 10 cm wide and I wear size 42 in Peerko 2.0 with 27,5 cm of inside length. This means that the shoes are 12 mm longer than my foot, which is the space I usually choose.

See my post How much space do we need in shoes if you want to know more about that.

3.2. Toebox shape & width

Shoes have great foot-shaped toebox with no tapering at the big toe side. They are best suited for foot types 2, 4 and 5. With foot type 1, there may be a little more space left in front of the smaller toes. How disturbing this is also depends on the width of the foot. With distinctly square foot shapes, the shoe may run out of space in front of the smaller toes.

More about different foot types you can read in the post What is my Foot Type?

The width of the shoe is determined by the sole type. This means that the way the sole is made (‘wall’ design) does not allow much adjustment to different foot widths by spreading the sole on both sides. Therefore, you cannot gain much extra width this way.

Peerko Classic is best suited for those with medium to wide feet. There is enough space above the toes too.

3.3. Fit around the instep, heel and ankle

The design of the Peerko Classic model adapts very well to different foot volumes. They fit best on feet with a average height od the instep and average heel and ankle widths, but they can also fit very well on feet with a higher volume.

Narrower feet with narrower ankles and less volume can have the most difficulty fitting. In this case, you can add some volume to the foot with an extra insole.

3.4 Comfort

Shoes are super comfortable to wear. The padded collar makes them even more pleasant to wear. I just love to wear them from the moment I put them on for the first time.

As they are made from leather and also lined with leather, your feet won’t sweat in them as fast as is some recycled PET materials. You can also wear them on your bare feet with no problems.

4. How to wear them?

Both styles of Peerko 2.0 shoes (with thin round laces and flat laces) work well with jeans, but those colours with flat laces still look more casual than those with round laces (except classic black colour).

Peerko 2.0 shoes suit well to more elegant clothes too and I can easily wear them with an elegant trousers and a blouse for a semi-formal look.

5. Price & where to buy

You can buy Peerko shoes on the official website, but you can also find them at various sellers. The full price for the Peerko Classic model is from 111.60 to € 115.60 (price varies depending on the size).

US customers can buy them at PedTerra (affiliated shop) with 10% discount with my affiliate code BOSENOGICE.

6. Shipping info

Shipping costs depend on the shipping country and where you are ordering from, so I recommend you to check their websites for more info.

7. To sum up

Wonderfully shaped toebox, with plently of space above the toes. With making a shoe that is really comfortable to wear all day, Peerko can proudly stand next to other barefoot brands. Not mentioning that you can look totally chic and stylish in them 🙂 All this is Peerko Classic.
