If you loved the look of Muki Cloud shoes and you wished for a leather version of it then Raw Leather Cloud model is a shoe for you. Made from soft vegetable tanned and also water-repellent leather will spoil you with a freedom of barefoot shoes and still make you look like you a wearing ‘normal’ shoe.

When Muki started their brand through crowdfunding campaign, I immediately decided to support them. When the brand strives to minimize environmental impact and their aim is to use sustainable materials, then they definitely have my support.

Unfortunately, my first pair of their Cloud model was extremely deep for my feet and I haven’t decided to try their shoes after that anymore. But when they released this new Raw Leather Cloud model, a leather version of Muki’s popular canvas Cloud model I decided to try them again. Especially when Muki ensured me that the new improved model should fit me fine now. And I’m glad they were right.

1. General

  • Brand: Muki Shoes
  • Model: Raw Leather Cloud
  • Colour: off-white
  • Tested on: woman, medium-wide feet, 26,3 cm long and 10 cm wide, low instep, skinny ankles

2. Material characteristics

2.1 Upper

The upper of Muki Raw Leather Cloud is made from water-repellent leather in off-white colour. The leather is chrome free/vegetable tanned and this beautiful, slightly cream white colour is just a result of this.

The laces are made from cotton and they are in pure white colour, matching the colour of the sole and lining.

At the back of the shoe there are small pull loops, which serve more like a decoration. At the sole it is imprinted a small double circle Muki brand logo.

2.2 Lining

The shoes are lined with a thin layer of white organic cotton lining. In the heel area inside the shoe there is black Muki brand logo.

2.3 Sole

Outsole is made of 3,5 mm thick recycled rubber. The sole has a profile made from small circles with the brand logo on the heel part.

The sole is sewn to the upper with the frame seam.

The sole of Muki shoes is also extremely flexible and you can roll the shoes in any direction you want. I’m also satisfied with the ground feeling in them.

3. Sizing information

3.1 Length

Raw Leather Cloud shoes are available in sizes 36-48 and are appropriate for men and women.

My feet are 26,3 cm long and 10 cm wide and I ordered a size 42. The inside length of size 42 is according to their size chart 27,4 cm, but it is slightly less than this.

I measured the inside length of size 42 with plus12 and the inside length is 27 cm.

The length still works for me, but I could have just slightly more space in front of my third toe while wearing socks. The toebox shape matches my foot shape really well, shoes have plenty of space above the toes and they are perfect width. So, this is a very rare case when I can say that less than 12 mm still works for me.

3.2. Toebox shape & width

Toebox shape of Muki shoes is slightly tapered at the big toe. My big toe is lightly touching the side of shoe now, which disturbs me if I wear them with socks, but without them or with just really thin socks they still feel fine.

If they would be just slightly longer it would be just perfect for me as in this case, I would completely avoid the tapered part of the shoe.

Regarding the width Muki shoes fit the best to medium and medium-wide feet, but those with wide feet (especially with more volume too) will still find them too narrow.

When deciding which size to get, take a look at your foot shape and the width (and circumfenerce) of the foot. For example, narrower feet than mine, but with the same length, can be perfectly fine in this size, as the big toe won’t hit to the front side part of the shoe. More about foot shape and the choosing the right size you can read here and here.

3.3. Fit around the instep, heel and ankle

First generation of Muki models was definitely too deep for my feet, but since then Muki changed a pattern a little bit and now they fit much better to my shallow feet. But you can still see than eyelets are closer together in order to get a secure fit.

If you want to add more volume to improve the fit you can try to add an insole in them. This can help a lot. I can’t put the insole in mine as they are slightly shorter than listed in the table and I don’t have enough space for my toes then. But it is definitely worth a try.

Therefore, if your feet are shallow and you are planning to wear it with the insole in, please consider the amount of space in front of your toes too (you will need more space in this case).

They fit the best to average width of heels and ankles, but those with skinny ankles will get a good fit too.

4. Comfort

Raw Leather Cloud shoes feels truly light on feet. The leather is soft and it doesn’t need any breaking in. It feels comfortable straight from the beginning.

The only thing that bothered me at the beginning was that they were rubbing me under my ankle bone and the heel part. My skin got a little irritated after some time of wearing them.

But I found a solution for this. I started wearing them a little looser around the opening, so there is still some space left there and it really makes a difference to me. And they are still feeling secure enough on my foot to wear the with no problem.

5. How to wear them?

White leather sneakers are such a timeless piece of wardrobe. They definitely work really well with your jeans.

But as they look so small, light and definitely not robust on foot, you can pair them even with a summer dress or with a suit for more relaxed look.

6. Price & where to buy

Muki shoes can be bought from their official website. Some models can be bought at different retailers too. Some of them can be found here. Full price for Raw Leather Cloud model is 120€.

Shipping costs for Europe are 9,50€ (free on orders above 200€) and 16€ for rest of the world (free on orders above 300€).

8. Where are they made?

Muki Shoes brand is based in Portugal and all their shoes are made locally with ‘small local manufacturers that have generations of experience in handcrafting shoes’.

9. To sum up

Muki shoes are definitely one of the lightest and the most flexible shoes on the market. They fit the best to medium and medium-wide feet with an average high instep, but the fit was improved even for shallow feet. Although those with narrow and shallow feet can still find them too deep. Also take in mind that this model is slightly shorter than listed in their size table.

If you want to wear as natural and non-toxic materials as possible for you and also make something good for environment than Muki shoes is a brand for you. I’m sure you will love their minimalist and cute design.
