Leguano Beat – Review

Beat model is like a fresh new wind in Leguano collection. So different from their previous styles and colours. And not only that it looks really good, it is also slightly wider than most of their previous styles and my foot fit in them just perfectly.

I have to admit that I haven’t decided to try Leguano shoes for a long time. I always thought that they are too narrow for me. When I finally got a chance to try them for the first time, I was really surprised how nice they look on my foot and that they were actually wide enough for my feet.

I’m really grateful to Leguano Slovenia that they invited me try their shoes in Bled, where their store is located.

Not only that I had a chance to try the shoes, I also met Dejan, his partner and kids (who by the way wore fantastic barefoot shoes that their mum made just for them) who own Leguano store and spread the word about barefoot shoes to people in our country.

1. General

  • Brand: Leguano
  • Model: Beat
  • Colour: grey/white
  • Tested on: woman, medium-wide feet, 26,3 cm long and 10 cm wide, low instep, skinny ankles

2. Material characteristics

2.1 Upper

New Beat model is available in three different colours – grey with black sole, gray with white sole and pink with grey sole.

I decided to choose new silver-grey colour with white sole. I just love how the white sole makes the shoe look even more light and airy and this colour is just perfect for me to wear in spring and summer.

The upper is made from 100% Polyester and this mesh material is extremely light, stretchy and breathable. The shoes can also be worn in water and they are machine washable too.

The laces are in the matching grey-white colour. A Leguano trademark is sewn on the tongue.

The sole is slightly curved up at the back part, which makes the shoes more durable and protect them while driving. There is also a strap with Leguano brand name on it.

2.2 Sole

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from Leguano sole, as it is definitely something unique and new to me.

The sole is made from special patented 100% LIFOLIT® material, which is one side very robust, but also really flexible. The special little hemispheres at the sole help the sole to move in all directions. They also allow the sole to adapt perfectly to any surface.

This special structure also gives you a good grip and larger contact surface on the floor for more ground feeling.

The flexibility of the sole is extremely good. You can roll it, squeeze it in any direction you want. You can do whatever with them with no effort at all.

I’m not quite sure how thick the sole is as it is really hard to measure it. I have quite good ground feeling in them, but there is still something different when I walk in these shoes, but I don’t know how to describe it. It just feel different to me. But in a good way.

The sole is sewn to the upper with a frame sewn.

3. Sizing information

3.1 Length

Leguano Beat model is available in sizes 36-47 and in Beat model you will definitely need bigger size as you are used to wear with some other barefoot brands.

In most of the barefoot brands I wear a size 42, but in Leguano Beat model I wear size 43, with inside length of 27,3 cm (measured with Plus12).

My feet are 26,3 cm long and 10 cm wide and in this model I have 10 mm space in front of my toes. But the material in Leguano shoes is really stretchable.

3.2. Toebox shape & width

Toebox shape of Leguano Beat model suit good to those with the longest first toe or the second toe.

Leguano shoes are not the shoes appropriate for wide feet. But their new collection is slightly wider than some other Leguano models I tried. For example, I also tried their Leguano aktiv model and the Beat model was wider.

The width of the shoe between the seams in size 43 is approximately 9 – 9,2 cm (measured with a wooden stick). For those with smaller circumferences around the toes, the actual width may be even greater because the feet will take up less volume in the shoe and allow the upper part of the shoe to stretch out to the side and therefore accommodate to your feet shape. In feeling the width in the shoe, the circumference of your foot is important too, not just the width of the sole.

You can see that my foot just fit in them, but it is not ideal.

On the photo below you can see that my foot slightly spills over the edge of the sole. Fabric used in Beat model is stretchable (but not as much as in their aktiv model for example) and the mesh fabric just moves with my feet.

Because of the stretchy upper, the Beat model can fit to slightly wider feet too, without the feeling that the toes are restricted. But I wouldn’t recommend to much hanging over the sole as in this case your feet don’t get the right sensorics information from the ground.

Although the upper allows a lot of stretching and accommodation, I would still recommend Leguano shoes for narrow and medium wide feet, because of the reason above.

3.3. Fit around the instep, heel and ankle

Beat model is suitable for people with narrower and normally wide heels and ankles. I feel like Beat model fit me like a glove. It perfectly “hugs” my skinny ankles and the laces make them really secure on your foot.

They fit my low instep really well, but normal height instep can get a really good fit too.

4. Comfort

Leguano Beat shoes feel light as a feather on my feet. They are extremely comfortable to wear and I really enjoy wearing them. No rubbing or pinching anywhere.

5. How to wear them?

You can pair these casual sneakers from Leguano with all your casual and sport clothes.

You can wear them for all your free time activities and even for indoor sport activities.

You can also swim in them. So definitely a lot of opportunities to wear.

6. Price & where to buy

Leguano has different online stores for different countries and they can be found here. The list of their physical stores is listed here. You can also buy them at different retailers. Some of them can be found here.

Full price for Beat model is 165€.

7. Shipping info

Shipping costs depend on the country and the website you are ordering from. So, the best thing is to check the information on the website you are ordering from.

8. Where are they made?

All Leguano shoes are produced in Germany under fair working conditions.

9. To sum up

Leguano Beat shoes definitely exceed my expectations. Not only that they are extremely comfortable to wear, their new models also have completely new and really appealing design which look pretty amazing on foot. New models are also slightly wider than their old ones. They suit my medium-wide feet fine, but those with wide feet will find them too narrow.

I have just one regret here – not trying Leguano shoes sooner.
