Do you wonder why this brand succeed so fast? Why their shoes are worn even by the people who don’t usually wear barefoot shoes? Or why so many people decided to choose Feelgrounds as their first barefoot shoes? Well, keep reading and you will see why.

When Feelgrounds started promoting their brand on Instagram account they immediately got my attention. Barefoot shoe that looks like a ‘regular’ shoe. Can this be true?

Feelgrounds proves it can be. These shoes look fantastic on foot and they definitely don’t scream from far away “Hey, I’m a barefoot shoe.” They look like a perfectly ‘normal’ shoe on foot and they are definitely one of the best designed barefoot shoes on the market.

No wonder why they succeed so fast. I follow this brand from its early beginnings and like me, other people noticed a good-looking shoe too. Their crowdfunding campaign goal was reached almost immediately and they ‘raised $250,000 by over 2,000 backers from more than 75 countries’ to fund their first production.

Their Original model was released in 7 different colours for men and women. In 7 colours that people voted and wished for. And I just couldn’t resist this beautiful dusty rose colour (for which I voted for, of course). Although, I must admit I crave for at least two other colours too 🙂 They are all so beautiful.

Disclaimer: Feelgrounds sent me these shoes for review, but as always, all opinions expressed here are my own. I want to give you an honest review, regardless if the product was sent to me to for free or I decided to buy them by my own.
I’m also proud to be a Feelgrounds affiliate and I may receive small commission if you make a purchase through the links on my website. I believe that Feelgrounds has a really great potential in barefoot shoe industry and I really want to support the brand that I truly believe in.

1. General

  • Brand: Feelgrounds
  • Model: Original
  • Colour: dusty pink
  • Tested on: woman, medium-wide feet, 26,3 cm long and 10 cm wide, low instep, skinny ankles

2. Material characteristics

2.1 Upper

The upper in Feelgrounds Original model is available in five different colours – black, white, dusty pink, navy blue and light blue. With the combination of different sole colours, there are 7 different colours available.

This dusty pink colour is just perfect for women and for me it was a love at first sight.

The upper is made from extremely breathable mesh material made from 100% recycled PET. The shoes are also machine washable on gentle cycle.

The laces are made from 100% recycled PET and are in the matching colour with the upper.

At the back of the shoe there is a strap with Feelgrounds brand name on it and it works really well with the rest of the shoe.

2.2 Lining

As the shoes are so light and airy the is no extra lining or insole in the shoe. Therefore, the shoes are just perfect for wearing in spring and summer and they are really pleasant to wear completely without the socks. Actually, this is the way that I’m planning to wear them as soon as it gets warmer.

2.3 Sole

Outsole is made from slip-resistant recyclable ‘special footwear TPE’.

The sole is 5 mm thick and I must say that I’m really satisfied with the ground feeling they give me. The sole move so well with my feet, I can feel every pebble under my feet, but they still offer me enough protection when needed.

They are extremely light and the sole can be rolled up with one hand with no effort at all.

3. Sizing information

3.1 Length

Feelgrounds Original shoes are available in sizes 36-49 and are appropriate for men and women (unisex model).

When choosing the right shoe size, I recommend you to stick with their size chart as it is really well made and true to size.

If you are still not sure what size to get, you can print out their size guide (be careful to print it out in the right scale) and put your foot on it. According to their size guide, the perfect size for me is size 42 (in size 41 I’m left with only 2 mm space in front of my toes).

My feet are 26,3 cm long and 10 cm wide and I decided to get a size 42. The inside length of size 42 is 27,1 cm. Therefore, I’m left with 8 mm space in front of my toes. Ideally, I would need 2 mm more, but the material is extremely soft and stretchy, so this makes a big difference here.

The width is ideal for me, the mesh upper is soft and I’m planning to wear it with thin socks or even completely without the socks at all. So, no need for more space for me.

3.2. Toebox & width

Feelgrounds shoes have a good foot-shaped toebox which fit really well to my medium-wide foot. The part at the big toe just slightly tapers at the end, but I don’t find that really disturbing as the width of the shoe is ideal for my feet. With 8 mm space in front of my toes, my toes are at the optimal position in the shoe for me to avoid the front part and get the right toe splay.

I would say that shoes fit the best to medium and medium-wide feet, but those with wide feet can find them too narrow. The fabric is soft, so some width can be accommodated there and sizing up can help to add some space too, but not too much.

3.3. Fit

I love how my Feelgrounds shoes fit on my shallow feet with skinny ankles. They are just perfect around my ankles, the laces don’t look tight too much, but they still allow accommodation of higher instep than mine is.

Even if your feet are narrow or shallow you can tight them enough with the laces to prevent foot slipping.

3.4 Comfort

Feelgrounds Original shoes are extremely light and they feel like feather on your feet. On the photos in this review I’m wearing them with my legwear on as it was still February (but 15 degrees Celsius), but they are really comfortable to wear completely without the socks too.

I must admit that these are not my first pair of Feelgrounds I tried. I already tried them at the beginning of their campaign and at that time I decided to return them. What was the reason? I absolutely loved the design and how they looked on my foot, but the back part of the shoe was pressing at my Achilles tendon, that it was too uncomfortable for me to wear them.

But Feelgrounds listened to their customers and after that they changed a small detail there and now, they feel like a totally different shoe. No rubbing or pressing anywhere.

4. Comparison to different brands

The width of the outsole of Feelgrounds shoes is comparable with Groundies, Wildling and Peerko shoes and is wider than Muki shoes and slightly narrower than Joe Nimble.

Regarding the amount of space inside the shoe I find that there is just slightly less space in them than in my Joe Nimble, Groundies, Muki or Wildling Suna shoes. But they are also shorter in size 42 than Groundies or Wildlings Suna in size 42, which also effects on the feeling inside the shoe. Also, the materials of the shoes I have are different. The differences between the shoes are small and the feeling in the shoe can varies with the different volumes and shapes of the feet. These are just my observations.

5. How to wear them?

Feelgrounds Original shoes are casual sneaker type of a shoe and you can pair these beauties with your jeans, leggings or trousers.

You can wear them with your sport clothes too, but they don’t have that ‘super sporty’ look, so they work really well with your everyday clothes too.

I really love the dusty rose colour. It is so eye-catching and just perfect for my summer wardrobe. This soft pink shade gives you a pure feminine feel. You can wear this colour with more neutral tones or even with similar shades of pink as I love to wear them too.

6. Price & where to buy

Feelgrounds shoes can be bought from their official website. Full price for Original model is 119€.

7. Shipping info

Feelgrounds ship their shoes worldwide for free. Shoes arrive super fast (Europe 2-5 business days, rest of the world 3-9 business days). Also, the returns are really simple to make.

8. Where are they made?

Feelgrounds goal is to ‘use mainly recycled materials’ and their shoes are produced in Vietnam under fair working conditions. They want to ‘treat anyone involved in Feelgrounds™ well’. All their shoes are also animal-free and eco-friendly.

9. To sum up

Feelgrounds shoes will keep your feet healthy and still make you look fabulous. I am sure you will be envied even by those who don’t wear barefoot shoes at all (and probably by those barefoot enthusiasts with really wide feet too as they will be just slightly too narrow for them).

With listening to their customers, followers on Instagram and Facebook and engaging them to every step of the process of designing new shoes, Feelgrounds is definitely doing a fantastic job. I’m sure they will just keep coming with great new styles and colours in the future. Are you as thrilled about them as I am?
